Catchwords - LJAS now incorporates catchwords which are derived from the daily e-mail alert notification within a fully searchable database. To ensure consistency across Sweet & Maxwell Asia's law - reporting services our catchwords are written by the same professionals who produce the Hong Kong Law Reports & Digest (HKLRD).

HKEC (Hong Kong Electronic Cases) - As part of our new service, we are introducing an electronic citation for all unreported judgments which are posted the in Latest Judgments - Alert Service. The citation performs a similar function to that of a citation for a law report. Each case has a separate citation; and a search can be performed by clicking on the "HKEC" parameter in the main search window and entering the relevant HKEC number.

What's in LJAS?

Our Policy
Sweet & Maxwell Asia's policy towards unreported judgments, is to post all judgments received from the Judiciary on our Website, unless otherwise instructed. For the most part, this consists of all judgments from the Court of Final Appeal (CFA), Court of Appeal (CA) and the Court of First Instance (CFI) unless the case is classified as "In Chambers".

How far back?

The judgments have been archived to January 1999.

"In Chambers" Cases

As a rule, we do not post "in Chambers" cases (please refer to Practice Direction 25.1 [1999] HKLRD (PD) 187).

However, if the judgment is of legal significance, Sweet & Maxwell Asia will seek permission to include it in LJAS, or in HKLRD.

What about Chinese judgments?

The judgments have been archived to January 2002.
